In honour of 700.000 killed...

Today's weather isn't nice... There are clouds and we can't see the sky... It was raining in the morning.. So I'm not I a very good mood...
I decided to say you something about the very sad event... It was in 1916, exactly from 21st of February to 20th of December 1916. Do you know what was it? No?
There was a big battle of Verdun.

The battle began at 07:15 on 21 February 1916 with a 10-hour artillery bombardment by 808 guns. German soliders  launched an assault on 6-kilometers long section Haumont-Caures-Herbebois.
Battle had 6 phases. All of them were very brutal...
If you want to know more, you can read about all battle here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Verdun

Now, in Verdun there is a very big graveyard. I will show you some photos of this place:
Douaumont ossuary - this building commemorates fallen

Ossuary and a small part of cemetery

Part of cemetery

Muslim cemetery (all of graves turned in the direction of Mecca)
And that's all.
I promise next note will be happier :)
A plus!
Anne
